Verstappen: This year in Mexico City will be more difficultOctober 22, 2019
Red Bull Racing has repeatedly achieved success in Mexico – its racers started from the pole, climbed the podium, and Max Verstappen won twice. But this weekend, the team fear competition from Ferrari.
Alexander Elbon: “Last week in Japan I achieved my best result of the season, I felt confident and understood in which direction to work with the car in order to prepare for the Mexican Grand Prix. Perhaps the weekend in Japan was my best during the performances for this team, we are showing better results, so I hope to continue in the same vein.
Usually, Red Bull Racing performed well in Mexico: last year the team won the pole and victory there – of course, this is good. Like Suzuka, this is another new track for me, but it seems that at least the driver has the right to make a mistake on it! It will also be great to drive through the stadium section of the autodrome, where there are always a lot of fans in the stands – they say this guarantees unique emotions. The Grand Prix of Mexico and the USA is the last double weekend this season, I am looking forward to a trip to America and want to get to know both routes. ”
Max Verstappen: “I look forward to returning to Mexico, because the two previous races on this track have developed very successfully – I won two victories. The Grand Prix of Mexico is a great weekend, and local fans love Formula 1. They are very friendly people, they are distinguished by a relaxed attitude to life, and I like it. In addition, there is very tasty food.
A lot of spectators come to the race, the atmosphere is amazing at the racetrack – including thanks to ensembles performing music in the style of mariachi, DJs on the podium and everything else that the organizers arrange. I really like performing in Mexico, because this track is not like the others: due to its location high above sea level, the adhesion level is quite low.
In addition, the turns are very technical, and you need to try to get through them as efficiently as possible, but usually we perform well there. “I expect that this year we will have a little more difficult, because Ferrari cars are very fast, but, in my opinion, we can still perform well in the race.”
