The current contract of Max Verstappen with Red Bull Racing expired at the end of 2020, and all last season there were rumors about the possible transfer of a young Dutch rider to Mercedes or Ferrari. However, today it was announced the extension of the contract between Max and the team from Milton Keynes until the end of the 2023 season.
Max Verstappen: “I am very pleased to continue working with the team. At Red Bull they believed in me and gave me the opportunity to debut in Formula 1 – I am very grateful for that. Over the years, relations with the team became stronger and stronger, and I am very pleased to work with people who are filled with a passion for racing and the desire to achieve results on the track.
Over the past 12 months since joining Honda, we have made progress, which gives me motivation and confidence that we can win together. I respect the way Red Bull and Honda work together – each side does its best to succeed. “I want to win with Red Bull, and our goal is to fight for the title together.”
Christian Horner, team leader: “The fact that our team has extended the agreement with Max until 2023 inclusive is great news! Since the championship will be changed in 2021, it is very important to maintain stability in all areas where possible.
“Max proved how valuable a asset he is for our team, he really believes in the prospects of cooperation with Honda, our engine supplier, and we are pleased to continue relations with this rider.”
