Valtteri Bottas: New cars allow us to addMay 11, 2019
Valtteri Bottas showed the best time in Friday’s free rides in Barcelona. Lewis Hamilton lost to his partner less than five hundredths. Mercedes tested the new items and are pleased with the progress of the car.
Valtteri Bottas (1st): “The day always turns out to be interesting when you put on new items and want to see if they give you the right speed boost. Today, the car was all right, its behavior was completely different from what was on the winter tests. It seems we could add.
The balance also became better – apparently, after the winter tests, we chose the right direction of development. Everything went well, but today is only Friday, and Ferrari are very close to us. It seems that we have made a good step forward, but we will see what happens tomorrow. ”
Lewis Hamilton (2nd): “Because of the strong wind, it was not easy to deal with the level of grip on three different tire compounds, but we ran the program and collected a lot of information for analysis. By tomorrow we will adjust the settings.
All worked hard and put a lot of effort to prepare new items. It seems that the updates work, but it is difficult to compare, because this route is very different from the street route in Baku. We still need to work with the balance, otherwise everything is positive. ”
Andrew Shovlin, chief race engineer: “We were not particularly fast here in the winter tests, but today we showed good time on the long and short series. Valtteri was easier to drive than Lewis, but both drivers had problems in some corners where they lost time.
In the first session on the car Valtteri there was a leak of oil, because of what had to stop working before we managed to drive a long series of circles. Fortunately, the car did not receive any damage, and we were able to continue working in the second training session. We checked a few new products. In the evening, we will study telemetry to make sure that everything works according to expectations. ”
