The first to receive permission is the American concern General Motors.
This year, the General Motors concern turned to the authorities with a request to allow drones without a steering wheel and pedals to be put on public roads. A positive response from officials would be a very significant decision for the entire industry, which is why the authorities are not in a hurry to resolve this issue. At the same time, the idea of mass production of a car without steering does not stand still. So, Reuters reports that the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and representatives of General Motors Co. already negotiating. According to preliminary information, consent has already been obtained, and the parties are currently discussing the details of the agreement.
They are planning to complete this process as early as next year. This deadline was announced by the acting administrator of the NHTSA, James Owens.
According to him, these will be low-speed cars that can be used to transport passengers and goods. It is known that, working on cars without a steering wheel, specialists will turn to systems that can be found on airplanes.
