Updated Mitsubishi Delica: Xpander styled design and another dieselNovember 21, 2018
Mitsubishi company declassified a minivan with a new design. The public premiere of the refreshed Delica will be held early next year, while in Japan orders for the model are already being accepted.
As expected, instead of the new, sixth, Delica generation, the Japanese presented a restyled version of the model with the D: 5 index. However, this is the most significant upgrade for the van, produced since 2007. Recall, the current MPV is built on the Outlander crossover platform.
The front of the Delica D: 5 performed in the style of an updated pickup L200, Xvander Crossvan and Eclipse Cross SUV: on top are narrow LED daytime running lights, under them are large blocks of main headlights (again, LED), even lower – fog. The rear lights are also new, although the style of the pre-reform model is preserved. The restyled minivan length increased by 71 mm to 4800 mm, the wheelbase is the same – 2850 mm. But the ground clearance was less – 185 mm instead of 210 mm. Also, the angles of entry (21 ° instead of 23.5 °) and exit (16.5 ° instead of 18 °) have decreased.
Inside, a completely new front panel and center console, the model has acquired a multimedia system with a large touch screen. As noted in Mitsubishi, better materials are now used in the interior decoration, plus improved insulation (for example, a thicker windshield is installed on the car). Minivan is still available in seven and eight seats. In the “base” of the chair upholstered in fabric, for expensive versions provided leather upholstery. The Delica D: 5 equipment list also includes: frontal collision avoidance systems (with pedestrian detection), warnings about leaving the occupied lane, collision avoidance when reversing, automatic switching of headlights, adaptive cruise control, all-round cameras.
Together with the standard van, there is a version called the Urban Gear, its features – other grille and bumpers, the interior decorated in black.
So far, for Delica D: 5 2019 model year, only one engine has been announced – a modernized 4N14 turbo diesel with a capacity of 2.3 liters. Engine power is 145 hp (at the old Delica – 148 hp), torque – 380 Nm (it was 360 Nm). The engine uses an SCR exhaust gas cleaning system with AdBlue urea injection, thereby reducing emissions. The engine is combined with a new eight-speed automatic transmission (in the pre-reform model – 6- speed automatic gearbox). The drive is still front or full (the rear axle is connected using a clutch). The model has also improved the steering: instead of a toothed rack, a double rail with an electric booster is used, due to which the response to steering steering should be sharper.
The public premiere of the updated Mitsubishi Delica D: 5 will be held at the Tokyo Motor Show, which will open in January 2019, and sales will probably also start at the same time. At the same time, orders for a novelty are already being accepted in Japan, a preliminary price of 3,850,000 yen. Interestingly, the old Delica will continue to be produced in parallel with the restyled model, but only with a 150-horsepower petrol engine 2.0 (factory index 4J11) and a CVT, such a minivan costs from 2,408,400 yen. Gasoline engine 2.4 (170 hp, index 4B12), apparently, will be dismissed.
