Updated KIA K900 sedan first spotted on testsAugust 28, 2020
The Korean automaker is midway through the lifecycle of its flagship KIA K900 sedan and has started an update. The pre-production sample was first “caught” on the street in South Korea.
The luxury sedan KIA K900 is waiting for a facelift. The portal The Korean Car Blog writes about this, publishing a photo of the camouflaged novelty. The automaker launched the KIA K900 / K9 just two years ago. Now an update has been conceived for the flagship of the brand.
Recall that the 2nd generation K9 (codenamed RJ) is available with two V6 petrol engines – a 3.3-liter Turbo GDi and a 3.8-liter GDi with 370 and 315 hp. respectively. The sedan also gets a 425-horsepower 5.0 V8 Tau gasoline engine. As for the sales of the second generation sedan, such a KIA K900 shows poor results in various regional markets.
The spy snapshot leaked on the Web does not give us a clear idea of what changes await the KIA K900. Koreans can follow the same path as Hyundai with Santa Fe or Grandeur, or they can limit themselves to “soft” facelifts.
At the same time, auto experts believe that KIA could take advantage of the update to transfer the sedan to a new platform that allows building hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions.
The feed of the car in the photo is disguised. We see protection on the front as well. So, most likely, it is in these places that the main changes will be concentrated. At the same time, it is noted that the restyled KIA K900 can receive the latest security systems, a new IT system and a number of other modern technologies. There is no information yet whether the automaker will adjust the engine range.
Meanwhile, KIA has shown a hybrid version of the new Sorento crossover. Such an SUV could enter the market after the diesel version appears. It’s too early to talk about prices, but KIA still declassified some details about the plug-in hybrid modification of its crossover.
