The new Genesis G80, which is expected to be released in the second half of 2019, missed the New York auto show and left us with some doubts as to whether the model will appear this year. Today, the head of Genesis confirmed the official debut of the new items in September in South Korea.

The new G80 will apply the Genesis design philosophy of the next generation, which was presented on the Essentia concept, as well as on the prototype SUV GV80. The new G80 will feature a sophisticated coupe-inspired exterior design with a fully detached LED lighting system, a quadrangular radiator grille, a low and long side profile and a sporty design at the rear.

Significant improvement will occur in the area of ​​powertrains, while the Hyundai Motor Group will present all this with the introduction of two new engine families. The first will be the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder Theta III engine, which can boast 300 hp. power. It is expected that the 3.3-liter gas turbine in the top-end G80 Sport will change to a new 3.5-liter Lambda III engine with up to 400 hp.

There are also suggestions that the 2.2-liter diesel engine will be replaced by the new 3.0-liter V6. The appearance of electrified versions is not excluded. Some consumers are waiting for the launch of a pure electric car from Genesis, but this is unlikely due to the fact that we have not yet seen a single electric car Hyundai Motor.

The new G80 will be lighter than its predecessor. The existing G80 received good reviews in terms of comfort and luxury, but fuel economy and poor performance due to its large mass were identified as a problem to be overcome. It is also believed that using a lightweight platform will reduce weight, but engineers are more likely to introduce new lightweight metal elements.
