Updated DS 9 introduced in EuropeNovember 26, 2020
Sales of the DS 9 mid-size sedan will kick off in Europe this month, featuring two plug-in hybrids and one petrol engine.
The price of a sedan in France ranges from 47,700 to 80,000 euros. The DS 9 sedan is built on the extended wheelbase version of the PSA Group EMP2 architecture, which underlies the Peugeot 508 and other compact and mid-sized cars of the brand. The sedan is manufactured in China and launched in that market earlier this year. DS, PSA’s premium brand, says it will sell the DS 9 in 40 countries.
It is the third vehicle to be developed by DS engineers after the DS 7 Crossback compact SUV launched in 2018 and the DS 3 Crossback small SUV that hit the market in 2019. Previously, DS cars were based solely on Citroen models.
The compact DS 4 is expected to be unveiled soon, as the brand promised to release a new model every year for six years, with the DS 7 being the first model.
The DS 9 is available in Europe with three powertrains: a 225 hp turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine, a 225 hp plug-in hybrid. with 11.9 kWh battery, capable of traveling 48 km solely on electric traction, plug-in version with 360 hp with four-wheel drive. The last unit is similar to the power plant of the new Peugeot 508 Sport Engineered.
DS says it will add a 250 hp plug-in hybrid powertrain in the future.
Although the DS 9 will be built in China, DS says the all-wheel drive versions will be produced at PSA Group’s plant in Poissy, France, near Paris. This high-performance variant combines two electric motors with 110 and 113 hp. with a 200 hp gasoline engine
