Updated Acura TLX Type S sedan will have more than 300 horsepowerApril 10, 2020
According to official figures, the 2021 Japanese premium sedan will receive a new turbocharged V6 engine. The car will be shown early next year.
Acura has thrilled the midsize luxury sedan segment with the stylish concept of the powerful Type S sedan last summer. The machine is essentially a conceptual version of the next generation TLX. The latter should debut later this year with the same design with which the Type S concept was able to delight everyone. The updated TLX will be of great importance to the automaker, as it will signal the return of the high-performance S-version and will be offered with a newly developed engine.
While the current TLX with a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 engine has 290 horsepower, the all-new six-cylinder turbocharged engine will provide “substantial power boost”.
Its performance is still unknown, but the report mentions that the novelty will receive a working volume of 3.0 liters, as well as an increase in torque compared to the current 362 Nm, given that it will be a completely new engine to benefit from forced induction.
The new V6 turbocharger will be connected to an all-wheel drive system (SH-AWD) with vector torque control. It is known that the high-performance version of the TLX Type S of 2021 will receive more powerful brakes and sports chassis settings.
Both the usual model versions and its “charged” versions with the S prefix will be based on a newly developed platform developed specifically for the TLX sedan. For conventional TLX will be offered an additional all-wheel drive system.
The Type S is not expected to debut with the regular model (end of this year), as Acura plans to introduce a high-performance version of the sedan in early 2021.
