Unveiled the interior of the new Volkswagen Golf RJuly 2, 2020
It seems that the official premiere of the new Volkswagen Golf R will take place very soon.
Today, America is deprived of the new hardcore Volkswagen R models: the updated Arteon R and the upcoming Tiguan R. Instead, the new Volkswagen Golf R will arrive in the United States under the R brand, which will be higher in the lineup than the eighth generation Golf GTI.
Prototypes of the Golf R have been seen more than once on tests around the Nurburgring and during the passage of grueling tests on snowy roads. However, this time, photo spies managed to get to know the new hardcore Golf R, which was discovered in the parking lot. While the previous prototypes were painted white, the body of this test car has a bright blue tint.
This Golf R is virtually unmasked, with the exception of a partially hidden front bumper. The prototype looks more aggressive than its “standard brother”, and the outstanding roof spoiler and four exhaust tips prove that we have just a hardcore version of Golf. The close-up of the unique wheels also gives us a clear view of the ventilated brake discs and massive blue calipers. The lowered suspension makes the Golf R look sportier.
For the first time, photo spies managed to look into a high-tech salon. Like the Golf GTI 2021 model year, the new Golf R will feature a 10.25-inch digital dashboard and 10-inch infotainment screen. Changes compared to other models in the Golf line are minimal, with the exception of the new steering wheel, carbon trim and sports seats with developed lateral support.
Under the hood of the Volkswagen Golf R 2021 model year, a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine will be installed that will transmit 328 horsepower to all four wheels, which is 37 hp. more than the current Golf R. With fishing due to the lack of camouflage, the new Golf R should debut very soon.
According to the latest information, this was supposed to happen at the World Speed Festival in Goodwood in July 2020. Since the event has been canceled, it is expected that the new Golf R will nevertheless be presented in the second half of 2020.
