UK car market continued to fall in MayJune 7, 2020
The May sales result was the worst since 1952, when the country was recovering from the crisis caused by the war.
Experts from an analytical agency published data on sales of new cars in the UK car market in May 2020. In total, residents of the United Kingdom purchased 20,247 new cars, which is 89% lower than in May 2019. If we talk about sales volumes from the beginning of the year, then from January to the end of May, British dealers sold 508,125 new cars. This is significantly lower than a year earlier for the same period – “minus” 51.4%.
The most popular brand in May was the American Ford, with a total of 2,111 sold cars (-89.4%). In second place was the premium German brand Mercedes-Benz with a result of 2,002 pcs. It was this brand that showed the smallest decline among the leaders – “minus” 86.1%. Next, three more representatives of the German automobile industry settled down.
TOP-3 closes Audi (1,501 pcs., -88.1%). BMW was located with a slight lag (1,472 units, -88.1%). Volkswagen tops the TOP-5 of the most popular brands in the UK market – 1,197 people (-92.4%) opted for this brand’s car.
