Tuner prepares manual box for Toyota Supra 2020 coupe
August 21, 2019For about $ 12,000, a tuning company from Texas will equip the Japanese sports coupe with a manual gearbox. Atelier already accepts orders for the modernization of the car.
Toyota Supra 2020 model year is a very fast car. The automaker has officially stated that the coupe can accelerate to a speed of 100 km / h in less than four seconds, which is very impressive, given that its engine develops “only” 335 horsepower. It is noteworthy that real tests on the dyno stand show that the motor power can be higher than the official figures from the company.
Another key element in such a quick acceleration is the 8-speed “automatic” ZF. Whether you like it or not, the “automatic” can shift gears faster than any person who has ever had a clutch pedal, and Toyota has repeatedly stated that no manual transmission model will receive. Nevertheless, some prefer manual transmission on a sports car.
The guys from the European Auto Group tuning studio decided to present a solution to this problem. According to representatives of the company, they are already working on installing a mechanical box in the new Supra, from BMW.
This means that the new transmission should be well suited to the 3.0-liter inline “six” from the same BMW. The guys also plan to use the gear lever from the more powerful Toyota GR Supra Racing Concept (pictured).
Some critics of the new Supra may like this conversion, but many are still upset that it is the Bavarian BMW that supplies the engines for the JAPANESE auto. In early March, a new Supra drift car appeared in 2020 with the Toyota 2JZ engine, which, of course, was connected to the manual transmission. Now the European Auto Group is ready to replace the Supra automatic gearbox.
