Track in Singapore may be changed in 2022September 16, 2019
The configuration of the Singapore highway in the future may be slightly changed – this is due to the planned construction work, which will begin in the center of the city-state in a couple of years.
The section from the 16th to the 19th turn goes around, and partially under the temporary platform, which faces the floating platform used on national holidays and sporting events. This platform is supposed to be dismantled at the beginning of 2022, and in 2025 a new, now stationary design should appear in its place.
For the period of construction work, instead of the existing section of the route with four turns, a straight segment may appear along which the cars from the 15th turn will immediately go to the 20th.
Consequently, the very 17th turn will disappear, in which Nelson Piquet intentionally crashed the car during the debut Singapore Grand Prix in 2008, which ultimately resulted in the famous scandal related to the rigging of the race results when the victory went to Fernando Alonso.
This story was called Crashgate and ended with the excommunication from Formula 1 Flavio Briatore, who at that time was in charge of Renault F1, and Pat Symonds, the then technical director of the team.
