Toyota Yaris has become a bestseller in JapanMay 11, 2020
The Japanese car market is gradually starting to recover after coronavirus. And in April, the sales leader changed here.
According to the Japan Association of Automobile Dealers, the impact of the crisis on the industry is felt, but in general the situation is not so critical. Some models showed growth compared to April 2019. And a new bestseller has appeared.
The most popular new passenger car in the Land of the Rising Sun was the Toyota Yaris hatchback (10,119 pcs.). Behind it is the Honda Fit (8977 units), the demand for which, even under current conditions, has grown by 32.5%. Toyota Sienta closes the top three – 6,982 sold cars, which is only 0.2% less than a year earlier. The former leader, Toyota Corolla (6679 units), immediately fell to the fourth line of the rating.
The most dramatic situation is the Toyota Prius. Firstly, it turned out to be the leader in the fall: sales fell by 57.8%. Secondly, for many years it was the hybrid Toyota that was the best seller of Japan, and now it is hardly included in the TOP-10.
