Toyota Yaris Cross first caught the photoJune 10, 2020
The most affordable Toyota crossover, which experts predict the role of the new best-seller of the Japanese brand, first hit the spy camera lens.
The Toyota Yaris Cross crossover was photographed in Japan during transportation on an auto transporter, and the image was posted on Twitter. Earlier, however, the car was spotted on its own, but then the photo was taken through the rearview mirror of another car, and only a small part of the new crossover appeared in the frame. In general, the first “live” photo did not bring anything new, but once again convinced that Toyota would really release its compact SUV in an unusual shade of gold “metallic”.
Earlier, the automaker published official images of the Toyota Yaris Cross, which was due to debut at the Geneva Motor Show this year. According to the press service of the Japanese brand, crossover sales should start in September. Initially, the car will appear on sale in the homeland, and in the middle of 2021, when it will be launched in France, in Europe.
Despite the name, this is not just a cross-version of the new Yaris hatchback, but a completely new car created on its basis, which differs in dimensions, body elements and assemblies. In terms of design, the crossover is more like a mini RAV4. The only reason Toyota decided to use the old name is marketing: attracting old Yaris and low advertising costs.
To reduce costs, Yaris Cross was built on the GA-B platform, created as part of the new TNGA modular architecture. And although the official price list has not yet been announced, experts assure: the newcomer will become the most affordable crossover of the Japanese brand. This is especially important, given the rich equipment of the model, which includes LED headlights, a HUD projector, an 8-inch multimedia system display, a partially digital dashboard and dual-zone climate control.
In addition, the Yaris Cross will have a rare, by the standards of the class, four-wheel drive E-Four with a small electric motor on the rear axle, which works at the start and a few seconds after it. The main will be a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine with 120 hp. In a hybrid modification, it is deformed to 91 hp, but is complemented by an 80-horsepower electric motor. In the first case, a 6-speed manual gearbox or CVT is used, and in the second case, an exclusively electromechanical variator.
