Toyota Yaris became Japan’s best-selling brandJune 5, 2020
Residents of Japan continue to give preference exclusively to local car brands. Not a single foreign model entered the TOP-10.
The Japan Automobile Dealers Association shared information on sales of new cars on the market in May 2020. It is noteworthy that, compared with many countries, the decline in sales here turned out to be quite small, and some models show steady growth. The bestseller of the Japanese car market continues to be the Toyota Yaris hatchback, which became the only model to sell over 10 thousand copies – 10 388 units.
In second place is the Toyota Raize crossover, which continues to amaze with rush demand. Last month, 7,916 residents of Japan became the owners of such a car. This car is appreciated for its compact dimensions, high technology and very low fuel consumption. The TOP-3 is complemented by a compact Honda Fit with a result of 7,235 cars sold. After the upgrade, this model showed excellent sales dynamics – “plus” 110%.
The fourth line goes to Toyota Corolla with the result of 6 540 cars sold (+ 89.5%). The TOP-5 Toyota Alphard minivan closes – official dealers of the brand managed to sell 5,750 of these cars (+ 110%).
Next came two more representatives of the Toyota brand – Sienta (4 344 units, + 57.3%) and Roomy (3 713 units, + 48%). The eighth position goes to Honda Freed with the result of 3,612 cars sold (+ 54.9%). Supplementing the “top ten” of the best-selling cars in Japan in May was the Toyota Prius (3,499 units, + 31.8%) and Nissan Note (3,470 units, + 43.1%).
