The company Toyota can revive the SUV FJ Cruiser. On this opportunity, Toyota Motor North America CEO Jim Lenz said at the Detroit Motor Show, Motortrend reports. According to him, the development of the Japanese brand is now considering the development of this car’s successor. If the project receives a “green light”, the novelty can compete with Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco.
“At the moment we have a place for a small SUV. We receive many requests from customers who want to replace FJ or some similar option, “the top manager said.
Previously, Toyota has already demonstrated several off-road concepts that could serve as the basis for the future car. So, in April 2017 at the Auto Show in New York, the company introduced the prototype FT-4X. The car is built on a TNGA platform, and the crossover dimensions are close to the CH-R model. A number of car body parts are made of carbon.
The Californian unit Toyota worked on the design of the model. The side mirror has a built-in GoPro camera. The trunk lid can be swung open vertically or open in sections. In the cabin of the car they installed a sleeping bag that fits between the front seats.
At the November motor show in Los Angeles, Toyota showed off the conceptual off-road vehicle FT-AC (Future Toyota Adventure Crossover). The main feature of the prototype was a set of cameras, through which you can record travel. The devices are integrated into the exterior mirror cases, which work in conjunction with infrared cameras serving for shooting in the dark. Additional LED elements on the roof can serve as a flash.
The Toyota FC-AC received a number of off-road elements, including enhanced underbody and underbody protection, towing hooks, 20-inch wheels and off-road tires. A special bicycle carrier is installed behind it.
Toyota stopped the release of the FJ Cruiser at the end of 2016. The car was equipped with a 4.0-liter gasoline engine. The power of the unit is 260-horsepower.
