Toyota will release five electric vehicles with a new nameApril 8, 2021
Toyota has applied to register five brands: BZ, BZ1, BZ5, BZ1X, and BZ5X. Electric SUVs are expected to be launched under these names.
The first one will be revealed at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show on April 19 and it looks like it will be called BZ. Toyota has previously released teaser images of him that showcase his proportions, but did not provide further details. However, we have probably already learned the name of the new series, which will include the SUV.
Forwarded to the European Union’s Intellectual Property Office, the patented image shows the new Toyota BZ logo, which stands for Beyond Zero. The BZ1 is expected to be the smallest crossover in the range, while the BZ5 is the largest. BZ models with X can be reserved for all-wheel drive options.
Each model will be based on the Toyota e-TNGA platform, co-developed with Subaru, which supports front, rear and all-wheel drive, as well as various battery sizes.
The technical details for the company’s first electric SUV remain a mystery, but they are expected to have similar proportions to the Toyota RAV4. At least two new BZ models have already leaked to patent designs, including a mid-size three-row seat and compact SUVs.
The Toyota BZ crossover is designed specifically for the European market. But Toyota North America CEO Tetsuo Ogawa confirmed that a separate electric vehicle is being developed for the United States.
