Toyota will launch a series of 1000-hp hypercarJune 15, 2018
Sporting division of Toyota – Gazoo Racing – confirmed plans to launch the series of 1000-hp hypercar GR Super Sport Concept. For the first time the prototype was shown in January this year at the Tokyo Motor Show, and now they were brought to the marathon “24 Hours of Le Mans”.
The four-wheel drive hypercar will receive a completely carbon-fiber design and will be equipped with a hybrid power plant built on the basis of a six-cylinder petrol bi-turbo engine in volume of 2.4 liters. The same unit is used on the sport prototype Toyota TS050 Hybrid, which participates in the World Championship in Endurance Racing (WEC).
There is no other information on the serial hypercar.
It is assumed that this car in two years will take part in the World Championship in endurance races. Since 2020, the rules of the competition will be changed, which will allow to create cars that are more similar to the serial models.
This year the factory team performs at the “24 Hours of Le Mans” with the sport prototype TS050 Hybrid. Two teams of the team took first place on the basis of qualification results.
