Toyota unveils GR Yaris all-wheel drive hatchbackNovember 11, 2020
It is no exaggeration to say that the new Toyota GR Yaris is one of the most anticipated “charged” hatchbacks in the EU this year. Its cost starts at 33,200 euros in Germany and from 29,995 pounds sterling in the UK.
Toyota Europe has finally unveiled the GR Yaris rally hot hatch on the Old Continent. At the moment, many details are already known. So, a 1.6-liter three-cylinder turbo engine with a capacity of 257 hp is responsible for performance. and 360 Nm of torque transmitted to all four wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission. It is the first proprietary Toyota all-wheel drive system introduced in 20 years and is the most powerful three-cylinder engine currently produced.
The Toyota GR Yaris hatchback can accelerate to 100 km / h in less than 5.5 seconds, and its top speed is electronically limited to 230 km / h. The permanent all-wheel drive GR-Four AWD offers three driving modes: normal, sport and track, with a torque split between the axles at 60:40, 30:70 and 50:50, respectively.
Since the current Yaris does not have a three-door body, Toyota had to essentially design and produce it just to homologate the WRC car next year, instantly making the GR Yaris a unique “exhibit,” even if production is not limited.
The new GR Yaris shares many of the same underpinnings as the “regular” Yaris, but the rear is completely custom built, with double wishbones instead of a torsion beam. The roof is 95mm lower and is made of carbon resin, while the fenders, tailgate and hood are made of aluminum. The officially declared weight is 1280 kg.
Toyota will offer buyers a Circuit Pack option that adds Torsen limited slip front and rear differentials, a set of lightweight 18-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot 4s tires, retuned suspension and red brake calipers. The Convenience Pack adds a premium JBL audio system, satellite navigation, parking sensors, ambient lighting and a head-up display. Two packages are not available at the same time.
The new Toyota GR Yaris comes standard with automatic LED headlights, suede sports seats, an 8-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, dual-zone air conditioning, automatic wipers, adaptive cruise control, lane tracking and frontal collision avoidance system.
