Toyota stops selling Versvo compact in the European marketAugust 17, 2018
According to the British edition of Autocar, from January to July only 852 copies of this model were sold on the British market against 3,969 copies of RAV4 crossovers, which, in fact, hit the sales of the compact van.
The reason for Verso’s weak sales lies not only in the fact that minivans and compacts are currently not popular in the largest automobile markets, but that Verso is equipped only with classic 1.6 and 1.8-liter atmospheric engines, as well as unpopular the current turbodiesel capacity of 1.6 liters, while the vast majority of RAV4 are sold in a hybrid version.
It is noteworthy that the company will continue to sell in the UK market another compact-hybrid Prius +, which is sold even worse: in January-July this year, the brand sold only 523 copies of this model.
Sales of Verso fell by 46% in the British market last year, and in October Toyota decided to suspend the production of this compact in its Turkish company. Some Verso still remains in the warehouses of British dealers, but closer to the end of this year they will be realized, and this will be the end of the sales of this model in Europe.
However, the model will be sold in the markets of South Africa, China and Israel, so it is still too early to “bury” it ahead of schedule.
