Toyota started selling Century in the Japanese marketJune 22, 2018
The Japanese brand brings to the home market a luxury third-generation Century sedan. In the new generation, the model became a hybrid.
The premiere of the prototype of the representative four-door sedan of the new generation took place in the autumn of last year. The serial version of the concept is no different. Recall Toyota Century release since 1967, and the current generation – only the third in the 50-year history of the sedan (the second generation debuted in 1997).
Sedan retained the style of its predecessors, while the model acquired LED optics. On the radiator grille there is a hand-made emblem with a phoenix. The length of the new Century is 5,335 mm, which is 65 mm larger than the previous generation model, the width is 1,930 mm (+40 mm compared to the second generation), the height is 1,505 mm (+30 mm), the wheelbase is – 3 090 mm (+65 mm). The thresholds of the doors became lower, the height of the doorways, on the contrary, was increased, that is, it was now more convenient to sit in the car.
In the salon, a modern front panel was installed, on the center console there is a large touchscreen of the multimedia system. Its display – one for two – is also for the rear passengers. Rear seats – with adjustments and massage function, in the central armrest there is a touch panel with which you can control climate control, multimedia and seat settings. A reclining footrest is built into the back of the front left armchair. Armchairs can be upholstered in leather or fabric on the basis of natural wool. Also in the cabin there is an active noise cancellation system, plus for the model special tires are developed that dampen vibrations.
The list of equipment still includes the Toyota Safety Sense complex: adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance systems, warning of leaving the occupied band, automatic switching of headlights.
The sedan is equipped with a hybrid installation of Toyota Hybrid System II, it includes a petrol engine V8 5.0 (model 2UR-FSE) with a capacity of 381 hp. (510 Nm), 224-hp electric motor (300 Nm), electromechanical Continuously Variable Transmission and nickel-metal hydride traction battery. The cumulative output of the new Century is 431 hp.
The plan of sales of a novelty is 50 cars per month, outside of Japan it will not appear. The price of a four-door starts at 19,600,000 yen. Century is the most expensive model in the brand line. Moreover, even the new Lexus LS is cheaper – the top-end Lexus in Japan will cost 16,800,000 yen.
