Toyota revived the name Supra for the new sports carMarch 6, 2018
The company Toyota presented at the Geneva Motor Show the conceptual racing sport car GR Supra Racing. The prototype is the forerunner of the new sports coupe, which will appear next year and will be the direct successor of the famous Supra model.
The novelty was developed by specialists of the autosport division of the Japanese brand Toyota Gazoo Racing. For maximum weight reduction, aerodynamic elements, including the rear wing, diffuser and side skirts, were made of composite materials, and the windscreen and windows are made of plastic.
The coupe received BBS racing wheels, a safety cage and a fire fighting system. The technical characteristics of the racing concept car are not yet called.
The “civil” version of the revived Toyota Supra will share the chassis with the third-generation BMW Z4 roadster – German and Japanese engineers are jointly developing a chassis for the new generation sports car from 2014 in the framework of the cooperation agreement.
According to preliminary data, depending on the market, the engine line will include two-liter turbo-suits with a capacity of 200 and 250 hp, as well as a 340-strong three-liter in-line six-cylinder. The transmission is an eight-speed automatic.
In addition, the sports car may have a modification with a hybrid power plant, created on the basis of a two-liter unit, which will work in tandem with two electric motors – one on each axis.
