Toyota refuses gasoline versions of Corolla in EuropeDecember 11, 2019
The first to announce this decision was the British division: in the 2020 version of the model year, Corolla will be offered only with a combined power plant.
A 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine is being removed for sale. Now Corolla will be the only hybrid in Europe, regardless of body type (hatchback, sedan and wagon are offered). It is worth noting that, along with a 1.2-liter turbo engine, versions with manual gearbox are also abolished – it was offered only in combination with a gasoline ICE. Against this background, the launch of two modifications with positioning as sports – GR Sport and Trek may seem specific. They are not planning to offer a manual transmission.
Thus, for Toyota Corolla in Europe will be available two options for a combined power plant. In the first case, it is based on a 1.8-liter gasoline engine, in the second – on the basis of a 2.0-liter. Significantly significant difference in power – 1.8-liter hybrids have 122 hp under the hood, and 2.0-liter – 180 hp. The drive in all cases is only front-wheel drive, the e-Four system for Corolla in Europe is not offered, at least in the 2020 model year.
Toyota calls the launch of the new Corolla GR Sport modification a notable event, although the features of this option are, for the most part, cosmetic. These include the new grille, lightweight aerodynamic body kit, 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside, there is a combination of black faux leather trim and fabric of new seats, a 7-inch screen, a multimedia system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Data on changes in the cost of the European versions of Toyota Corolla 2020 is not given.
