Toyota R&D renamed
April 20, 2020Toyota Motor Corporation has announced that its European research base Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) has changed its name to Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe GmbH (TGR-E).
TMG was originally created under the name Andersson Motorsport GmbH in Cologne in 1979, then changed its name to TMG in 1993 when it became a subsidiary of Toyota.
In addition to the company’s involvement in the motorsport business that it has carried out since its founding, in recent years it has expanded its work with the GAZOO Racing Company (GRC), applying its experience gained in motorsport over several years in the development of GR series cars. The change in company name reflects its closer relationship with GRC.
In the future, TGR-E will continue to serve as a center for Toyota’s automotive operations in Europe, and will continue to work closely with GRC, based in Cologne, Germany. The company will continue to participate in a number of key Japanese automaker operations in Europe, including the supply of engines for cars participating in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), and will also assist in the development of the GR Supra GT4.
TGR-E will also use the knowledge and experience gained over the years of its activities in the field of motorsport in the development of mass-produced cars, which will contribute to the creation of more and more advanced cars.
