Toyota promises to keep Land CruiserApril 22, 2019
The company confirmed that it does not plan to abandon this model, despite small sales. Moreover, when creating a new generation, the company, which is not expected until 2021, hopes to avoid abandoning the traditional values of this SUV.
This model has been known worldwide for decades, but in recent years it has been going through hard times in terms of sales. There are several reasons, but the main ones call the age of the model, high fuel consumption and non-compliance with the market demands. A clear confirmation can serve as sales in the US market, at one time was one of the key to the Land Cruiser. For the three months of this year, only 764 Land Cruisers were sold in the USA. These are negligible numbers when compared with other Toyota models, incl. and with the old (Tundra, Sequoia). The average sales of Land Cruiser does not exceed 300 cars per month.
Despite such disappointing results, Toyota does not intend to abandon this model. Bill Fay, senior vice president of the North American division of Toyota Motor, told the Motor Authority publication that the company “will remain loyal to the Land Cruiser for the foreseeable future.” This, however, can be interpreted in two ways.
Firstly, it means that the company is not planning major upgrades to an aging SUV. Secondly, the company’s plans for a new generation, which she has repeatedly stated before. Toyota says that the future Land Cruiser “will remain an SUV, retaining all the traditional elements of this type of car design.”
At the same time, the car will inevitably require significant changes, the main one being called the modernization of the engine range.
