Toyota Prius C may disappear altogether!February 19, 2019
Toyota Corolla Hybrid 2020 model year, in fact, will be a replacement for the Prius C, but with much larger body sizes and better fuel economy.
Get ready to say goodbye to the Toyota Prius C, because the hybrid hatchback is approaching its retirement (in Japan, this car is called Toyota Aqua – editorial note). If buyers want to have an electrified car for every day that can save fuel, and, moreover, has a comfortable size, the Japanese brand offers the Corolla Hybrid 2020.
“You probably won’t see the Prius C hybrid hatchback for a long time,” said Ed Lauks, vice president of the Toyota Marketing group, during an event on the new Corolla. “Prius C has done its job well, and so far has been retiring.”
Introduced in the United States as the 2012 model year car, the Prius C, known at home as the Toyota Aqua, expanded the Toyota model range by offering customers a smaller, less expensive hybrid model than the larger Prius. Under its hood was a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine operating on the Atkinson cycle and an electric motor. The total power is 99 horsepower.
The new Corolla Hybrid will go on sale in the spring of 2019 and will get the same engine as the current Prius. The hybrid propulsion system consists of a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine and two motor-generators, with a total capacity of 121 hp. Corolla Hybrid 2020 has a consumption of 4.44 liters per 100 km in the city and 4.52 liters on the highway, in the combined cycle this figure is 4.52 liters.
