Toyota’s new patent application may indicate that the Japanese automaker is also considering releasing a long-roof model (station wagon) specifically for the United States.

The latest generation Toyota Corolla is a global model for the Japanese automaker. While in the United States you can only purchase this car in a sedan or hatchback, customers in Europe and other regions of the world are also offered a more practical and stylish version of the station wagon model.

First discovered in foreign forums, a patent application was allegedly filed by brand representatives last week.

This document registers copyrights for Toyota BZ and Capstone designations. Some reports from eminent media claim that the first of them can actually be used for the American version of Corolla Touring Sports, which the brand calls its Corolla station wagon abroad.

If this rumor turns out to be true, Toyota will be one of the few automakers in America to offer a station wagon to its customers. Currently, this class of cars, apparently, is limited mainly to the premium segment – station wagons are offered by Audi, Volvo and Mercedes-Benz. The introduction of the more affordable station wagon from Toyota will be warmly welcomed by a small but growing group of fans of this body type.

As for the other Capstone designation, there is evidence that it can be used for a new version of several Toyota models at once. According to insiders, the Capstone designation could be reserved for a more off-road version of the compact C-HR crossover, so that the car could better compete with the American Jeep Renegade crossover.
