Toyota plans to get rid of V8 in its carsApril 24, 2020
Many Toyota models are now equipped with a powerful V8: Toyota Land Cruiser / Lexus LX, popular in the USA Tundra pickup truck and Sequoia SUV, LC 500 coupe and GS F sedan sport version. They can’t be imagined with other engines, but the company believes otherwise.
Serial production of power plants of the V8 UR series is carried out at two Toyota enterprises: in Huntsville (Alabama, USA) and Tahara (Japan). According to insiders, at the first plant, the release of V8 may cease within the next 12-18 months. In Japan, the G8 will last a little longer, but even there, their production will last no longer than 2023.
The V8 will be replaced by a twin-turbocharged V6. Similar units are already used on some models. For example, in the Lexus LS500, a 421-horsepower 3.5-liter V35A-FTS is located under the hood.
At the same time, Toyota will have to keep the release of some versions of the V8, but it will no longer be massive. These are engines for the Toyota Century imperial sedan, a diesel V8 for the Land Cruiser 70, and the new dual-turbocharged gasoline engine promised for the flagship version of the Lexus LC F.
Thus, the information of the AutoTimesNews is confirmed that the next Toyota Land Cruiser 300 will lose a powerful V8. It is expected that he will be replaced by a hybrid power plant.
