In the United States, sales of the flagship sedan of a new generation will start.
Recall, Toyota Avalon fifth generation debuted in January this year as part of the Detroit Motor Show. It is built on the architecture of TNGA, on the basis of which the Camry, Prius and C-HR models are also built. Four-door sedan became longer and wider, but lower, and also received an enlarged wheelbase. The appearance of Avalon is made in the style of the younger Camry.
During the premiere, the manufacturer did not name the recoil of the novelty engines. The composition of the Avalon power range includes: V-shaped “2” 2GR-FKS 3.5-liter, the output of which is 301 hp and 362 Nm of torque, as well as the Toyota Hybrid System II, which includes a 2.5-liter gasoline 4-cylinder, a 650-volt electric motor, a battery pack under the rear seats and a variator. The power of the hybrid system is 215 hp, which is 15 hp. more powerful than the previous generation model.
In XLE trim, the hybrid model kicks off from $36,500, whereas XSE versions cost $38,000 (gasoline) and $39,000 (HV) respectively. Opt for the Limited trim instead and you’ll pay upwards of $41,800 (gasoline) and $42,800 (HV), whereas the flagship Touring spec is available with the gasoline V6 only, and costs $42,200.
The Avalon equipment list includes ten airbags, an infotainment system with a 9-inch touchscreen, a projection display, climate control, wireless charging and a premium 1 200-watt JBL 7.1 surround sound system with 14 speakers.
The flagship sedan in the US market demonstrates the peak of sales after a change of generation. For example, in 2013, 70,990 such vehicles were sold in the USA, 48,079 were already sold in 2016, and sales in 2017 amounted to 32,583 units. For comparison: the younger Toyota Camry last year sales amounted to 387 081 units, and in 2016 – 388 616 cars.
