Toyota presented its new small crossover Yaris Cross 2021. Initially, the brand planned to make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show, scheduled for early March. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the car dealership was canceled, and car manufacturers had to organize premieres of their car innovations online. Now the turn has reached Toyota Yaris Cross. The crossover is based on a modular platform, lightweight and durable. It guarantees a car a reduced center of gravity, better handling and sound insulation.
In length, the novelty turned out to be 240 mm larger than the standard Yaris hatchback – 4,180 mm, but the wheelbase of these two models coincides – 2,560 mm.
The new cross boasts a more traditional design and more practicality. For the performance of Toyota Yaris Cross 2021 meets the hybrid, consisting of a 1.5-liter 80-horsepower gasoline “aspirated”, an electric motor on the rear axle and a set of lithium-ion batteries. The total power of the power plant reaches 116 hp By default, the front-wheel drive cross, however, if the electronics detect insufficient traction, an electric motor is triggered, which drives the rear wheels.
Buyers will be able to order the Yaris Cross with 18-inch wheels and a new shiny paint called Brass Gold. Cargo transportation makes it easier to adjust the trunk, as well as a special belt system. Serial production of Yaris Cross will be a plant in the French Valenciennes, where the novelty will stand on the same line as the classic Yaris. In Europe, sales of new items will start in the summer of 2021. Here, the new compact cross will have to compete with the Nissan Juke, KIA Soul and Mazda CX-3.
