Toyota introduced Highlander new generationMay 12, 2020
Toyota Corporation on Monday, May 11, showed the updated Highlander cross for Europe, which debuted one year after the advent of the North American variation.
The novelty will be located at the top of the line, topping the list of C-HR, RAV4 models and the recently introduced Yaris Cross. The crossover with the landing formula 2 + 3 + 2 has a length of 4966 mm, and the distance between the axles reaches 2850 mm. The boot volume is 658 liters, but the usable space can be increased to 1909 liters by folding the third and second row of seats.
The restyling cross is based on the GA-K platform, which is one of the versions of the TNGA architecture. Thanks to this platform, a more robust design, a lower center of gravity, as well as improved handling and sound insulation are provided.
European customers will be able to purchase the new Highlander only with a hybrid power unit based on a 2.5-liter gasoline engine that operates according to the Atkinson cycle. The engine works in conjunction with two electric motors – one each on the front and rear axles. The total performance of the unit is 247 hp. The declared fuel consumption is 6.6 liters per 100 km of track in the combined cycle.
The updated cross is also equipped with adaptive cruise control, a system for recognizing road signs, the function of keeping the car in the occupied lane, and also a system for preventing frontal collisions.
In addition, it has recently become known that the new generation Toyota RAV4 sets sales records. Thus, the sales volume of the model in the local Japanese market more than 2 times exceeded expected demand.
