Toyota in the fire: the fire can reach more than 1 million cars!September 5, 2018
The Japanese automaker announced a global recall of hybrid cars that could catch fire due to a short circuit.
Today, leading news agencies have disseminated information about a major recall of Toyota cars around the world. Increased attention to this topic is understandable: Toyota is primarily associated with the word “reliability”, and every feedback in connection with any malfunction undermines the established stereotype, and here a million cars are urged to service at once! More precisely, 1.03 million.
In a huge risk group – hybrid hatchbacks Toyota Prius (including those connected to the outlet version) and hybrid crossovers Toyota C-HR, issued from June 2015 to May 2018. It is established that, due to dust, dirt and shaking, the insulation of the cable leading to the power electronics unit can be damaged and lead to a short circuit. At least one case of smoke has been fixed – therefore, there is a real danger of a fire.
More than half of the recalled cars (554 thousand) are in Japan, 192 thousand in the US, the rest in Europe and other countries where the above-mentioned models are sold.
Prius, by the way, saw a larger response: announced in 2016 because of the risk of fuel leakage, the service campaign affected 2.87 million vehicles.
