Toyota GR develops hypercar for public roads
June 15, 2019According to rumors, the first hypercar sports division Toyota GR will receive a powerful 986-strong hybrid powerplant. Prices for new items will exceed $ 1 million
The concept of the Japanese hypercar, which is presented by the guys from the Toyota GR Super Sport division, is now being worked on at full speed by the engineers of the brand – its serial version will soon be presented. The company intends to give hypercar a sharp name for the production version.
The racing version will debut at the competition in the autumn of 2020, and testing of this car will start early next year, which should give a better idea of the design of the car.
“For Toyota Gazoo Racing, this new era of racing is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate our capabilities not only as a racing team, but also as a sports car manufacturer,” said Shigeki Tomoyama, President of Gazoo Racing.
In racing form, cars must have a maximum power of 750 horsepower. According to insiders, electric motors can develop no more than 270 hp. Front-wheel drive will be driven precisely by an electric motor, thus all-wheel drive will be provided.
In the conceptual version of its hypercar, GR Super Sport engineers use a hybrid 2.4-liter twin-turbo V6 engine with turbocharging, the total capacity of which is 986 horsepower. The design of the car is more like a track-oriented car than a road car that you can meet in the stream. This effect is achieved in particular due to the absence of the rear window and the vertical fin separating the rear part of the hypercar. It is reported that prices for the new product will even exceed $ 1 million.
