Toyota GR Corolla will receive the “stuffing” from YarisMay 28, 2020
Corolla could be the hottest hatchback Toyota is teasing the US with.
In early May, Toyota hinted that a new hot hatchback will appear on the US market, which will be called “its own.” This happened after the automaker introduced the adorable GR Yaris with all-wheel drive, a powerful turbocharged engine and a 6-speed manual gearbox – only for the markets of Europe and Asia. The “charged” Yaris will not come to the US, which pretty much leaves Corolla as the only alternative.
According to Japanese media, GR Corolla is definitely in development. In addition, the report claims that the four-wheel drive turbocharged powerplant will go directly from GR Yaris. Recall that a pint-sized hatchback uses a completely new engine in the Toyota lineup – a 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine that produces 257 horsepower and is combined with a manual gearbox. It sounds like it’s about a real Toyota rally car.
A Toyota spokesman declined to comment on the manufacturer’s future products. According to rumors, such a car will be launched in 2023, but the publication Best Car reports that this new Corolla may appear at the end of this year or at the beginning of 2021. But regarding the timing of the appearance of the “charged” Corolla, as well as the borrowing of components from GR Yaris, there are no guarantees.
Of course, there is growing evidence that some kind of reinforced Corolla is approaching. Between GR Corolla’s trademark registration and America’s unexpected response to GR Yaris, it really is a matter of asking details. Regardless of whether we find out the whole story later this year or a couple of years in the future, at least the future for the new Corolla with a hot rally hatchback looks brilliant.
