Toyota is looking to expand its lineup. After the Camry, the brand added the Yaris Cross and a new Highlander to its European portfolio, but there may be more models in the future: Toyota has registered the Corolla Cross design with the European Union Intellectual Property Office.

Toyota unveiled a new SUV in Thailand this year: the Corolla Cross. At 4.46 meters in length, this crossover is more suited to the Corolla segment than the C-HR, with which the crossover shares its wheelbase. In terms of size, this type fits neatly into the lineup between the aforementioned C-HR and RAV4.

AutoTimesNews now has exclusive images published by AutoWeek that Toyota has registered with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). Given the popularity of crossovers and SUVs, and the Corolla Cross shape, which looks more like an SUV than the C-HR, the car would really add a spice to the European range.

The Corolla Cross is 25cm longer than the C-HR and about 28cm shorter than the RAV4. The wheelbase of 2.64 meters is the same as that of the C-HR and Corolla hatchback. The relatively laconic design of the SUV has a luggage compartment with a volume of 487 liters. It also makes it significantly more spacious at the rear than the C-HR, which has a capacity of 377 liters.

In Asia, the Corolla Cross is offered with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder petrol engine producing 140 hp. and 177 Nm, which sends power to the front wheels via a CVT transmission. There is also a hybrid based on the well-known 1.8 with 98 hp, which works in conjunction with a 72 hp electric motor for a total output of 122 hp. This powerplant is known from the Prius and Corolla. The all-wheel drive version of the Corolla Cross is out.
