The Japanese brand announced the premiere of a compact hatchback of the third generation.
The novelty debuts in March as part of the Geneva Motor Show. While Toyota has spread only a teaser hatch, whether the station wagon will remain in the ranks is unknown. Contrary to the rumors that appeared on the Internet in January of this year, in Europe the five-door hatch of the new generation will continue to be sold under the name Auris.
Earlier it was reported that for the European market models of the next generation will return the historical name Corolla. Let’s remind, the five-door hatch of the first generation entered the market in 2006. So, according to the portal Car Sales Base, in 2017 in Europe, 114 105 Auris cars were sold, whereas in 2016 Europeans bought 128,906 such cars.
At the heart of the new generation Auris is the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) architecture, which also features the C-HR crossover, the latest Prius and Camry. Toyota announced that the hatch will be offered with a hybrid plant, which included a new petrol “Quartet” 2.0 (146 hp) and a nickel-metal hydride battery. Other details about the “filling” of the hatch are not yet given.
The European Auris of the previous generation is available with a four-cylinder petrol turbo engine 1.2 (116 hp) and an atmospheric engine 1.33 (99 hp). The current hybrid is equipped with an electric motor and a petrol engine 1.8, which produces 136 hp.
In Geneva, Toyota will present several new products. In particular, the motor show will bring a sports car Supra and a restyled subcompact Aygo.
