Toyota announced the model Yaris liftback versionJanuary 24, 2019
Toyota will provide detailed information on the Yaris 2020 model year at the upcoming New York Auto Show.
In the 2019 model year, the name Yaris iA changed to Yaris Sedan, and now Toyota makes an announcement about the possible termination of sales of the model in the back of a 5-door hatchback. As part of his recent interview, Jim Lentz, who is the CEO of Toyota in North America, he said that the Yaris model expects an uncertain future in the United States, this new announcement by the automaker did not come as a big surprise.
The demand for subcompact hatchbacks is not what it used to be after crossovers and SUVs have gained popularity. For this reason, Toyota is currently evaluating its entire range to determine which cars should receive the right to life, and which ones should go completely.
The weak demand for the Yaris 5-door hatchback is evidenced by the company’s decision not to release a version of the more powerful Yaris GRMN – this car will be released in an edition of 600 copies in Europe and 200 in Japan, where it is called Vitz GRMN. The same story with the Yaris GR Sport, which is a less powerful car option.
While the Yaris Liftback will not be available for purchase, a Toyota spokesman told CarsDirect that the company will make an announcement about the change of the Yaris 2020 family at the New York Auto Show. The event is starting April 17th.
