Toyota announced a new “charged” hatchback in the USMay 9, 2020
The Japanese brand hinted at the release of a new hot model and this is not Yaris.
The Toyota GR Yaris, the size of a pint, is equipped with a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine delivering 257 horsepower and 361 Newton meters of torque, coupled with a six-speed manual gearbox and four-wheel drive. However, the model is available only for Europe, and it seems that the Japanese company is preparing to launch another “charged” model on the American market.
Toyota posted a mysterious post on their Twitter account in the US, saying that “although GR Yaris doesn’t get into the states … maybe it’s time for the US to get its own new product.” The company then recommends that fans subscribe to updates on upcoming Gazoo Racing products via this link, which, ironically, shows Yaris GR.
By all accounts, this is the first time Toyota has confirmed (or nearly confirmed) the GR product for the United States, although suspicions of brand intentions have surfaced, taking into account the company’s recent trademark applications. Back in early April, Toyota filed a GR Corolla and C-HR GR-Sport trademark application with the US Patent and Trademark Office. Both of these applications imply that sporting versions of the Corolla and C-HR may appear soon. And the first may be the car that Toyota hints at in this tweet.
