Toyota abandons Corolla gasoline variations in EuropeDecember 12, 2019
Toyota’s UK division said the 2020 model year Corolla will be available exclusively with a hybrid powertrain.
The 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine is discontinued. From now on, Corolla, regardless of body type, will be the only hybrid in Europe. Along with the turbo engine, modifications to the manual gearbox, which were offered only with the internal combustion engine, were canceled. Against this background, 2 future sports variations GR Sport and Trek will also be released without manual transmission.
So, Toyota Corolla in the European market will be offered with two options for a hybrid power plant. In the first case, it consists of a 1.8-liter gasoline engine, in the second – from a 2.0-liter unit. Naturally, both variations will get a significant increase in performance: 1.8-liter up to 122 hp, and a 2.0-liter up to 180 hp. The drive is exclusively front-wheel drive.
Toyota called the launch of the new Corolla GR Sport variation a significant event, although updates to this option, for the most part, are cosmetic. These include a new radiator grill, a lightweight aerodynamic body kit and a set of 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside, a combination of fabric, black faux leather, a 7-inch screen and an infotainment complex with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
