Tourist Trophy 2020 canceled due to coronavirusMarch 17, 2020
The calendar of road racing has undergone major changes. Tourist Trophy 2020 on the Isle of Man was canceled due to the spread of coronavirus. In addition, the North West races are going to be canceled or postponed, and the events of Cookstone 100 and Tengria 100 have been postponed for an indefinite period.
A response from the Isle of Man government followed the reaction of the United Kingdom. The ultimate goal is to protect the population of the island from the spread of the virus.
“The decision to cancel the event was not easy. The options and possibilities to postpone the event were discussed in detail,” says Laurence Skelly, Minister of Development. “The Isle of Man government will discuss the consequences of this cancellation with all interested enterprises, individuals. In the foreseeable future, we would like to decide on how to compensate the business and the audience for the consequences of the cancellation … The decision will give certainty to the teams, participants, sponsors and interested parties, as well as to all visitors around the world. ”
