Three-row crossover Mazda CX-8 updated a year after the premiere: expanded motor rangeOctober 26, 2018
Now SUV is available with three engines – two petrol and diesel. The updated model will be available in November.
The Mazda CX-8 crossover entered the home market in mid-September last year. In Japan, the model is the flagship of the brand, because the larger coupe CX-9 is not selling there. At home, the CX-8 is available with a six- or seven-seat salon, where SUVs are in high demand: as of September 14, 2018, dealers received more than 30,000 applications. Nevertheless, in November sales of the already updated cross-country start in the Country of the Rising Sun.
The appearance of the model has not changed, the update has affected technology and interior. So, if before the CX-8 was available in Japan only with a Skyactiv-D 2.2 diesel (190 hp, 450 Nm), now the crossover can also be purchased with gasoline engines – Skyactiv-G 2.5T “turbo” (230 hp, 420 Nm) and “aspirated” Skyactiv-G 2.5 (190 hp, 252 Nm). But the gearbox is still one – a six-speed automatic. The naturally aspirated SUV – only front wheel drive, the CX-8 with a turbo engine, on the contrary, is offered only in version 4WD. Diesel cross can still be bought with both front and all-wheel drive. By the way, not so long ago, the Skyactiv-G 2.5T engine appeared in the range of Mazda CX-5 – so far only in the Japanese version, but later this engine will get models in other countries.
Another Mazda CX-8 got a modernized system G-Vectoring Control, which, when cornering itself, can add and release the gas, allowing you to make the car’s behavior more predictable. The new version has the prefix Plus in the name, it comes into operation already at small steering deflection angles, in addition, G-Vectoring Control Plus continues to control the crossover at the exit of the turn.
Also in the list of equipment SUV appear advanced pedestrian detection system (now it works not only during the day, but also at night), “made friends” with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto multimedia complex, updated dashboard and the climate control unit. Plus, the cabin improved noise insulation.
The price of the crossover with the basic “aspirated” starts from 2,894,400 yen. The updated SUV with a turbo engine costs from 3,742,200 yen, with a diesel engine – from 3,607,200 yen
Recall that Mazda initially positioned the CX-8 as a model intended only for Japan. However, the company then changed its mind: since June, the crossover has been sold in Australia, and the “senior” CX-9 is also represented there. And at the end of the year, the Mazda CX-8 will reach Chinese dealers. And if in Australia a SUV is supplied from Japan, then the Celestial Empire will offer a local assembly model – the release has already started at the Mazda and Changan joint ventures. The Australian CX-8 is equipped only with diesel 2.2, the Chinese version – “aspirated” 2.5. It is not yet known whether the motor range will be expanded outside of Japan.
