There will definitely not be a new BMW 3-Series GTOctober 4, 2018
In 2009, the Bavarian brand BMW surprised the entire automotive community by presenting a rather unusual 5-Series Gran Turismo model. Well, a little later, the 3-Series Gran Turismo model appeared. While the first has grown into a 6-Series, the BMW 3-Series GT will definitely not be represented in the new generation.
As it was possible to learn from a recent interview with BMW officials, the brand’s management does not intend to release a new generation of the BMW 3-Series GT (Gran Turismo). The current version of the car will reach the end of its life cycle in a few years, after which this version of the compact German family will disappear from the automotive market.
Why was this decision made? The current head of the department of BMW, which is responsible for the global development of the brand, Klaus Frolih commented on this decision to the foreign edition of Motoring.
According to him, “everything changes,” and those drivers for whom practicality is important, increasingly choose X1 or X3 crossovers. Thus, the BMW 3-Series GT (Gran Turismo) will be another model that will lose in the battle for consumers to crossovers and SUVs.
Mr. Frolich believes that the decision to halt the development of the 3-Series Gran Turismo model will not affect the sales volume of the German automaker. In particular, because the sales of this car can hardly be called fantastic, and the Bavarian brand has at its disposal a huge number of models for every taste. Despite the attempts of journalists to find out when the mass production of this car will be stopped, it was not possible to find out the exact date. Most likely, the model will leave the conveyor of the company in July 2020.
After the introduction of the new generation of the BMW 3-Series sedan, the wagon of the same family will be shown later. According to insiders, the display of the latter can be expected early next year.
