There was a teaser for the Subaru Outback in the off-road version of WildernessMarch 24, 2021
The Japanese automaker has released a teaser for the Subaru Outback wagon in the Wilderness off-road version. Outback will be unveiled on March 30th.
As automakers rush to stand out from the growing crowd of crossovers with tall suspensions, massive tires and additional plastic bodywork, Subaru has been conspicuously absent from them until now. For a while, there have been rumors of a more off-road performance for the Wilderness, which will be available for some of the brand’s models. Now it looks like we’ll finally see the Outback Wilderness wagon later this month. Subaru has released a new teaser for the off-road version of the Outback.
The new teaser shows a crossover with solid rockers, thicker tires and unique wheels, but nothing else.
Subaru is also not providing any specific details on the new performance of its all-wheel drive station wagon, only hinting that we should wait. The accompanying text reads: “The legendary Outback is the most durable and most powerful car in the Subaru lineup. But what if Subaru went further? Or did you go higher? “
Subaru continues that the new Outback has “more off-road capabilities.” We expect this to mean Subaru will provide the model with an upgraded suspension with a higher seating position for more ground clearance, a stronger exterior with additional plastic cladding, and other subtle upgrades to improve its off-road capabilities. We do not expect Subaru to make any significant changes to the new engine range.
We won’t have to wait long to get all the details on the more off-road performance of the station wagon. Subaru announced that it will show the Outback Wilderness later this month, March 30, at 11:00 am ET. The Outback Wilderness is set to be the first of several such models, with the Forester Wilderness crossover expected to arrive later this year.
