Huawei has introduced the first electric vehicle on its own platform. The 350-horsepower Seres SF5 Free Expedition Edition crossover has a 1,000 km range and costs $ 40,000.
A new electric vehicle debuted in China: the Seres SF5 Free Expedition Edition crossover became the world’s first production model based on the Huawei DriveONE platform. It includes all the main components of an electrical power plant: motor control unit, motors, gearbox, DC / DC converter, on-board charger and traction battery control unit.
According to Huawei, DriveONE is a great one-stop solution for making it easier and less costly to develop zero-CO2 vehicles. In addition, given that the Seres SF5 Free Expedition Edition is actually converted from a regular ICE car, the new platform is not too demanding on the layout of the car. The advantages of DriveONE should be of interest to automakers planning to convert their model range to electric traction.
As for dimensions, the Seres SF5 Free Expedition Edition does not differ from the petrol version of the Seres SF5: wheelbase – 2 875 mm; length – 4 700 mm, width – 1 930 mm and height – 1 625 mm. A pair of electric motors with a total capacity of 350 hp are responsible for its performance. The declared NEDC range is over 1,000 km, although the actual range is unlikely to exceed 850 km on the WLTP cycle.
The electric crossover is equipped with cameras, ultrasonic sensors and radar, but the L2 + autonomous driving system is hardly advanced. However, the newcomer is estimated quite modestly – exactly $ 40,000. Official information about the start of sales has not yet been reported.
