The working group approved amendments to the regulations for 2020April 7, 2019
The strategic working group of Formula 1 approved a series of changes to the technical regulations for the 2020 season. The changes are not final, and edits are still possible in them, but RaceFans reports on the most important ones.
From next year, the air ducts of the brakes, each team must produce independently. In fact, this will only affect Haas, since only this team did not produce air brakes, purchasing them from Ferrari.
The design of the side plates of the front wing and its profile will change. In addition, rear-view mirrors will be adjusted. The most noticeable changes await the design of the engine casing – a characteristic “shark fin” will again appear on it. Its size has yet to be determined, but it is intended to accommodate the number of riders.
The remaining changes in the technical regulations will be outwardly invisible. Since 2020, the amount of fuel that can be placed outside the fuel tank is limited to 250 milliliters instead of 2000 milliliters.
The rules for the operation of the understeering clutch switches have been corrected – since 2020, the switch stroke is limited to 80 mm. In addition, technical solutions that allow the position of the clutch switches to be in the optimal position will be prohibited. All this should further increase the role of the rider at the time of the start of the car from the spot.
In addition, the dimensions of the head restraint and the overload parameters, which during the tests must withstand the monocoque with Halo, are specified.
