The upholstery of the seats of the new Audi A3 will be made from recycled plasticFebruary 25, 2020
The interior upholstery of the new Audi A3 is 89% composed of fabric derived from recycled materials. For its manufacture, plastic bottles are used, pre-crushed and melted into a homogeneous mass, from which subsequently granulate is obtained – the basis for the threads.
The fourth generation model A3 will be offered for the first time with recycled plastic environmental upholstery. As they say in the corporation, each set of chairs requires 45 bottles of 1.5 liters, and another 62 is needed to make the flooring. From the secondary raw materials, in turn, the side panels and the floor of the luggage compartment, as well as rugs, are made.
According to the automaker, the main goal is to bring the number of recycled materials to 100%. The unit responsible for creating new types of upholstery is already close to making such a fabric – it will consist entirely of unmixed material, which will make it possible to reuse it.
In the long run, salons from recycled recyclables will be received by absolutely all cars of the German corporation.
It was also previously noted that the German crossover Audi RS Q3 will not appear at brand dealers in the United States.
