The updated Subaru Impreza family: a different look and autopilot. Salon and motors are not touchedAugust 27, 2019
While presented restyled sedan and hatch designed for the Japanese market. In the homeland of the brand, orders for a refreshed model are already being taken; live sales will start in the fall.
Having moved to the SGP platform (Subaru Global Platform), the Impreza model of the current generation debuted in the spring of 2016 in the United States, in the autumn of that year it entered the home market. And with survivors of the planned restyling, the hatch and sedan decided to do the opposite: the versions for Japan were the first to be presented, the global freshened model would be declassified later. Recall that in the homeland of Subaru, the sedan in the name has the prefix G4, the hatchback there is called Impreza Sport.
Both versions have got a new front bumper with chrome “corners” under the foglights. The radiator grille is “flattened”, instead of “cells” it now has horizontal stripes. Also, Impreza’s headlights were upgraded. The feed has not changed, but the wheels of the new design are added (the wheels are still 16-, 17- or 18-inch). The salon was also not touched, except that the screen of the multimedia system became larger.
All versions of the restyled Impreza in Japan have EyeSight driver assistance systems with Touring Assist. The EyeSight complex on the Subaru model has been installed for a long time: two cameras are installed under the windshield, they transmit the image to the electronics, which already controls adaptive cruise control, automatic braking and lane keeping systems. And the Touring Assist is an autopilot for highways, it takes control of the car at speeds up to 120 km / h, although you can’t remove your hands from the steering wheel. By the way, such a system a couple of years ago appeared at the local station wagon Subaru Levorg and WRX S4 sedan.
Impreza also received a camera integrated into the grille (to facilitate parking). Well, the airbag for pedestrians has not gone away – it is built into the hood, only the Japanese version of this model has it.
The engines are the same: in the home market, both the hatch and the sedan are available with atmospheric boxer 1.6 (FB16) and 2.0 (FB20) with a capacity of 115 and 154 hp respectively. Both motors are combined with the Lineartronic V-chain variator. Drive – front or full.
In Japan, orders for the updated Impreza G4 and Impreza Sport are already being accepted, but prices have not yet been announced – customers will have to wait until the fall when live sales begin. Pre-reform basic machines have a single price tag – 1,944,000 yen
