The updated Ford Explorer was presented for policeJune 14, 2018
The American manufacturer is preparing to present the next generation crossover.
Ford has a number of models designed for US police. These include the Explorer crossover, the police version of which is called Police Interceptor Utility. The police have already demonstrated a new generation model in a closed show, after which teasers appeared and some data about the future novelty.
For example, it became known that the Explorer will move to a new platform, so that the transverse arrangement of the motor and the front drive will change to the longitudinal arrangement and the rear drive. In addition, the new Ford Police Interceptor Utility hybrid powerplant, which the current Explorer lacks.
The emphasis on the police presentation was just made on the hybrid – the guards of the order touted the economy and environmental friendliness of the novelty. It is claimed that the new hybrid cross-over will surpass its predecessor 40% in terms of economy – this is a comparison with the current V-shaped “six” volume of 3.7 liters, installed exclusively on police cars.
Thus, each car will reduce annual fuel costs by $ 3,200, and a hybrid will be better to accelerate and have a higher maximum speed. Full-wheel drive police cars are already in standard equipment.
To take orders for a new Ford Police Interceptor Utility on the basis of Explorer the manufacturer is ready already at least now, however, “live” deliveries will begin almost a year later – in May 2019. Probably around this time, sales of civilian Ford Explorer will begin, but the debut of the novelty is planned for the winter.
By the way, the first police hybrid car was Ford Mondeo, presented last spring.
