The tuner unveils a very nasty version of the Subaru WRX STI sedanOctober 13, 2020
Subaru, together with the Vermont SportsCar team, has created a special version of the powerful Subaru WRX STI sedan. The machine will be featured in a new series of Gymkhana videos. Famous racer Travis Pastrana will drive the feisty car.
Travis Pastrana will take on Ken Block’s driver’s seat in the next installment of spectacular Gymkhana videos. He will drive a modified Subaru WRX STI that looks spectacular. Subaru worked with the Vermont SportsCar team to create the car specifically to “do exciting things on video, rather than conform to the rules of any racing series.”
Subaru did not reveal technical details about the new Gymkhana WRX STI.
The company confirms that it is using a bespoke boxer engine with exhaust gases coming out of the bonnet. The redesigned suspension has more travel than the stock suspension. The carbon fiber body features massive fenders, a huge wing and a giant diffuser.
The video above shows the first race of racer Travis Pastran, who is also a rehearsal for a new part of the videos from the Gymkhana series. The racer is much more accustomed to driving to win races, rather than showing unique car stunts. In the video, you can see him trying to go through a corner with a “reverse entry” – this action includes moving in reverse and then hard acceleration. Pastrana is a little wary at first, but eventually he gets comfortable.
We do not yet know how much power the car’s engine produces, but Pastrana mentions several times in the video that he (I mean the car) has a lot of “muscle”.
The first video of Gymkhana 11 is reported to premiere before the end of the year.
Not so long ago, AutoTimesNews wrote that the powerful Subaru WRX STI EJ20 Final Edition sedan was presented in Tokyo. The Japanese novelty debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show. An exclusive version of the car will only be available in the Japanese market. The automaker will only assemble 555 examples of the Subaru WRX STI EJ20 Final Edition.
